Graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art in year 2026, Qingyu(Levrice) Zhang is a graphic novel writer&artist, and book artist.
Their fine art practice explores the intersection of representation and abstraction, often beginning with observational drawings of figures, objects, and architectural spaces before transforming them into layered narratives of memory and change.

04 MIXED MEDIA SCULPTURE

Physical materials are essential to my work. My process of making sculptural objects are different from my process of making images. First, I like to explore the form, space, weight and texture of the materials I am working with. It is from there I am inspired to come up with a concept. Every time I make a sculptural object, I learn a new set of skills and techniques. So far, I have learned to work with wood, metal, paper, and air dry clay. The learning process will also become a major part of the artwork.
